QuickFreedom

Untether Jailbreak your iPod Touch 2G!!

Thursday, March 12, 2009

Problems still exist..

Okay we still have a few problems, although it seems another percent of people have successfully jailbroken :)

1) LIBUSB not detected as installed. I'll be adding a spot in the advanced settings so you can tell QuickFreedom that you have it installed

2) Slowness/Lagg - This is happening on SLOW computers and the reason behind the "stuck creating/1% errors" I will try to process this in the backround so the program still will respond properly =/ As a temorarty fix, close down ALL running programs in the backround.

3) LIBUSB - May not be installing properly on vista so I'll revert back to the old manual method of installing in compatibility mode

4) If you recieve a patch error please send the log.txt file in Program Files / QuickFreedom  directory to dan@ipod2g.info so I can sort this out thanks.

As a side note, after you have successfully jailbroken you may uninstall LIBUSB until you need to jaikbreak again.

it would seem that you actually fixed most of the quickfreedom's problems, with only vista and minor other problems to accomidate, when would be a good time to consider removing the "beta" status?

mlewjr: Did you follow the steps exactly when putting it in DFU mode? You must remember not to be a single second off when doing this.

This may help for those trying to put it in DFU mode:

Dan, I have a question: When you check a boot logo, does it place it on a black background and make an image that fits the iPod screen, or does it just place the small logo in the middle of the screen? I just want to know so I can change my boot logo without screwing up my iPod.

If iTunes doesn't recognize the itouch in recovery mode, then the itouch comes out of recovery mode. Is it OK to just restore the "Custom Firmware" when iTunes recognizes the itouch? (My itunes will not recognize the recovery mode and default to restore)

mecheng: I think the only way you can get your iPod to restore successfully to the custom IPSW is to have it in DFU mode while you restore it. While an iPod is in DFU mode, it is forced to accept & install any IPSW you choose, whereas, when in normal mode or recovery mode, it has the ability to recognize & reject the custom firmware.

I was bored so I threw these together:

    Snowflake QuickFreedom Background:

    Pineapple QuickFreedom Background:
    http://waddle-world.com/ipod-things/wallpaper-qf-ap.png

If you use them as your wallpaper and go into WinterBoard and check User Wallpaper, it'll look really cool. When you're at the Move & Scale screen before you set one as your wallpaper, just make sure the QuickFreedom text is sitting on top of the translucent box at the bottom of the screen that has the "Cancel" and "Set Wallpaper" buttons in it. :)

And I thought this might make a cool program icon:

    Again, awesome program Dan!

Waddle50008: thanks... i guess i need to wait for a proven method on the 64bit XP...

i did get farther this morning with the white screen and no errors on the pre-jailbreak...

just can't figure out the restore...
Although the pre-jailbreak was successful, i figured I have to continue to run the QuickFreedom until I get a successful restore.
    Thoughts?

Dan, first of all, thanks a million for QuickFreedom, I managed to jailbreak my ipod to untethered on Wednesday night with 1.1.0.
I'm on Vista Ultimate x64 (no sp1) and had a few problem which are:
    - Couldn't create the firmware (stuck @ 1%). Managed by doing it in XP32 under VMWare.
    - libusb crashes Vista x64 when restarting/shutting down. error 0x0000007E.
    - Removing Watermarking didn't work: top of desktop says "Microsoft (R) Windows (R) Build 6000"
Today I uninstalled libusb and the BSOD went away.
I then uninstall QuickFreedom 1.1.0 and installed 1.1.1.
Started installing libusb but BSOD came back when rebooting.
    Watermarking is still there.
"3)Install Batch" didn't work, error 53, file not found. You forgot the Files folder in "3)Install Batch", copying it back from 1.1.0 worked though.
I'll remove all this tomorrow once I've jailbroken my friends iPod.
    Hope this helps.

Well... hmmmm... everything worked great. I got the custom firmware prepared and on my desktop; got the Touch to go into DFU mode; got the pre-jailbreak part accomplished np; opened iTunes and shift+click the restore button and opened the custom firmware; it all went according to plan.. but it's still not jailbroken. It looks and acts exactly the same as it did before... hmmmmm

I'll try it again in the morning.

    Hi,
Thank you for creating a great and easy to follow program. I successfully and "untetheredly" jailbroken my iPod Touch 2G with the custom boot logo and all that.

I'm using Windows Vista x64 SP1 and I had to do Step 2 (Creating a Custom Firmware) on a Windows XP SP3 x86 guest OS in VMWare. Like RWP said on March 13, 2009 5:36 AM, the creation of the new firmware in Step 2 did not push through.

With regard to LIBUSB for 64-bit machines, I just followed the instructions given by QuickTether on YouTube. I was successful in installing that on a Vista x64 SP1 PC too.

fixed the custom firmware loading by loading it on my wifes 32 bit XP instead of my 64bit XP. There seems to be an issue with the drivers. although I am able to get the pre-jailbreak done on the 64 bit machine, i needed to restore the Custom Firmware on the 32 bit machine. then in order to get the itunes on 64 bit to recognize the itouch, i had to uninstall the libUSB drivers and update the imaging apple driver to the USB apple driver... then iTunes recognized and restored my music/videos and apps.

Have you updated to 2.2.1 firmware? This may be irrelevant, but you could try.

Make sure libUSB drivers get installed, and iTunes is open and recognizes the iPod.

So to clear things up, is this readily possible in Windows Vista 64 bit sp1? If so does anyone have a link to a guide that could get me through installing libUSB without causing BSOD?

Also, if one messes up during jailbreaking, is it possible to restore the ipod (if so, how would one go about it?) or does it becomes a brick?
