I know you have worked really hard, but I am somewhat irritated by the fact that libUSB is not workin for me. I had uninstalled and reinstalled manually, only to find that I'm still getting the blue screen. I also rebooted my computer only to find that one of my disks needs to be checked for consistency, which from past experience takes a VERY long time. I'm also running vista 32 bit and Followed your instructions. GAH.

What a bummer after so much following this release and being so excited about custom boot logos.

Bill, after you installed did you restart your computer?

first of all THANKS DAN, I've been waiting for this release... for being the 1st time I jailbreak an iPod it was really easy...

I had to try 2 times in order to jailbreak my iPod, the first time I got the BLUE screen of death after waiting for about 15 mins for the firmware to be created, I guess that the problem was not restarting my box after installing the libusb... Once I restarted my box everything was really easy, just follow the instructions and voila! you get a jailbroken iPod. The only tedious thing was to restore my iPod once it had been jailbroken (which has nothing to do with quickfreedom) anyhow it's working wonders

i know this is going to sound noobish, but can anyone explain how this can change your boot logo without restoring? it doesn't make sense that it can change it withour deleting all your stuff. please explain

  • At March 31, 2009 1:40 PM , Blogger Silverfin said...

    @ Mike - It just doesn't :P

Not much to explain - all it does is re-write the boot logo, not everything on your device.

@ Hrishikesh - No chance, even if it doesn't work, you should be able to boot without any ill effects, but even if it somehow got really messed up, you could just restore back to the official firmware instead.

Just tried out changing the boot logo, and it in fact doesn't delete any of the files on the ipod (all music, apps, video, settings intact). You do have to restore, but its fairly quick. Thanks Dan!!!

Here are my problems & my solutions:

The creation proccess stuck again, I read the logs and said that unzip program doesn't exists.

    Solution:

Visit this web pages (http://stahlforce.com/dev/index.php?tool=zipunzip) and download unzip.exe & zip.exe and copy them to windows's directory
    .

    Ease :-)

    Thx Dann

Hi Dan. Thanks for the hard work. Unfortunately, I'm having a problem. I'm able to put my iPod in DFU mode and QuickFreedom shows "iPod connected in recovery mode" but when I click "Start Pre-Jailbreak" I get "Please connect your iPod in DFU mode. If you need help, press DFU instructions." Am I doing something wrong?

  • At March 31, 2009 8:58 PM , OpenID Mike said...

Great job on the basics, especially the Jailbreak itself. only one thing that would be VERY sweet to add- support for immage conversion of any immage to the required png and the other requirements built-in or automatically.

@Silverfin, thanks i guess, but i still dont know what it means, is it restoring and then re-syncing all your stuff or is it like a fake restore that somehow doesn't actually restore?
it's hard to word, but how can it re-write the boot logo when restoring when a restore deletes all your stuff? someone please explain, very confusing.

but i accidentally put it into recovery mode and i dont want to lose all of my cydia apps so i was hoping somebody could help me so i wont have to completely re-jailbreak my itouch

okay, new problem, i got everything to work again, i updated the custom NOR to my Custom Boot Logos, not errors.
Then followed the steps and restored my iPod, added the NOR

But for some reason, my custom logo still doesn't want to show up, it's just a black screen on the boot.

I'm pretty sure i didn't do anything wrong, i followed the instructions exactly.

Any ideas on whats going wrong or how to fix it?

    Thanks in advance.

Everything works perfect for me until after I get the iPod into DFU Mode. LIBUSB installed, Test Program works, Original 2.2.1 FW found, Custom FW created, got it into DFU Mode... Then the problem starts. When I click "Start Pre-Jailbreak", the screen on the iPod turns white and it says "Starting pre-jailbreak... please wait", but then QuickFreedom just sits there. iTunes comes up and says "iPod is in DFU Mode, you need to restore to use it", then it changes and goes into Recovery Mode. iTunes comes up again and says "iPod is in Recovery Mode, restore." QuickFreedom never finishes Pre-Jailbreaking though. I tried hitting cancel and installing the Custom FW in iTunes, but it comes up with a 6004 error. Any help? (Vista 32-bit)

Okay, i have no idea why this is happening.

i Decided to try to just uncheck the "Use Custom Logo" check box and see if that'd work, it didn't

i tried creating a whole new NOR firmware, nothing happened again

i really have no idea what to do

i fear that if i create a new custom211.ipsw i will lose all of my downloads (winterboard, etc) what I've spent hours searching and getting my iPod the way i like.

Why is this happening? What should i do?

  • At April 3, 2009 7:33 AM , Blogger NeoToxx said...

    alex,
that means that your QuickFreedom file path is incorrect. The first message is just a pop up that comes with the program. The Secong is because when your opening QuickFreedom, your computer can't find it because the path is incorrect

just reload QuickFreedom, and it should be all good

i have the same problem like "alex_sms_1". i tried to reinstalled it und restarted the computer. but always same error comes when i try to create the firmware. i spectated that quickfreedom copied the original firmware, but when creating the custom firmware, quickfreedom delets the copied firmware. i don´t no why the programm delets the file?!

  • At April 5, 2009 12:05 AM , Blogger bdog720 said...

alex_sms_1; check your quickfreedom shortcut properties, make sure that the target path is the right (eg. links to where quickfreedom is) because for some reason vista sometimes changes certain shortcuts.

Hello - I have been waiting for "Firmware creation" for many minutes. Close to 0% CPU utilization, no HDD activity, no progress bar. Logged in as a user with admin privileges. Rebooted when didn't seem to go anywhere but same story now. It says iPod connected in normal mode (if relevant).
    Thanks! - Martin

for those who have still problems in using quickfreedom 1.2, maybe you can try to follow the steps from the video tutorial of curtguven on youtube... though he used the QF1.1.1, it worked for me using 1.2 version.
    here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6b35Rh7sxhw
    good luck and enjoy!

I have Tried to Jailbreak my IPod 2G 8GB three times now.
Every time after putting it into DFU and then into Pre-Jailbreak I, as instructed go to iTunes to restore. When iTunes detects the iPod it wants to connect onto the internet and won't recognize the Ipod Device, thus I can't go SHIFT+Restore. Additionnally when I do connnect, iTunes wants to download the original Firmware. I uninstalled iTunes, QuickFreedom and LibUSB and Reinstalled, to no avail.
When I click create firmware it sits on my computer for +-20 min no RAM/CPU/HDD Activity.

How can I get to Jailbreak this Ipod????(Vista 32-bit Buisiness)

Wow..how come the important fixes are never added.... Still hangs at 1% for hours and hours while creating custom firmware. Please come out with a fix for this because no matter how long you wait, it never works.. and I've heard other people complain and nothing has been done about it..
