QuickFreedom

Untether Jailbreak your iPod Touch 2G!!

Wednesday, April 15, 2009

FAQ

If you are having trouble using QuickFreedom Please find your question below and it may help you.

1) I keep getting an 'Error Creating Firmware' everytime I try making it.
  • Try running the program as an admin (Right click on QuickFreedom and select Run as Administrator)
  • Make sure you are logged onto windows as an Administrator
  • Reinstall QuickFreedom and try the above procedures again

2) I'm getting the blue screen of death and/or my usb ports and drivers are not working properly.

  • LibUsb must be installed in compatiblity mode for windows xp sp2. If you forgot to do this or it did not work properly. Restart your computer and press F8 during boot and select Safe Mode. Uninstalling LIBUSB or doing a system restore to a time before LibUsb will fix all your driver issues.
  • LibUsb is known to mess up your drivers so be careful about doing so.

3) Im getting error 6 in iTunes while restoring

  • Problem is with your boot logo most likely. Make sure you meet all requirments for creating your own custom boot logo found in the help file in QuickFreedom.

4) I can't find the Custom Firmware file on my desktop!!

  • Did you click Create Firmware in QuickFreedom during Step 2?

5) I downloaded the original 2.2.1 firmware, however it shows a bunch of files.

  • When you download the Original 2.2.1 firmware do NOT extract it. It should have an extention ending with .ipsw

6) I am unable to enter dfu mode or my computer does not recognize it.

  • To enter DFU mode, click here for a tutorial.
  • If you get an USB device not recognized, uninstall LIBUSB and reinstall iTunes (will not delete any music or anything)
7) I'm getting "Error 13" in iTunes
  • This problem is related to USB. Turn Off your ipod and unplug it. Replug the device and turn it on and place in the correct mode (DFU or Recovery). If this does not work reinstall iTunes/LibUsb
8) I keep getting "Error 1604 or 16xx in iTunes"
First of all this problem can sometimes be fixed if you restore to your original 2.2.1 firmware. If that fails then an entry through iRecovery needs to be changed so Auto-Boot = True. To do this follow this tutorial here.

Thanks for everyone who used QuickFreedom to jailbreak their ipod!

If you are still having problems please send your log.txt and your problem to dan@ipod2g.info

I have the same problem as Tuan. I've tried restoring my 2g 16gb ipod touch probably about 20 times in the past few days. I used the newest version, 1.2, for my windows xp. My ipod has been in recovery mode, and I can't get it out of recovery mode, so I try to restore it, but I always get error 1604. I tried using the older version of quickfreedom, different custom firmwares, restarted my computer, used a different usb, but nothing's worked. I just uninstalled and re-installed itunes & quicktime onto my computer, then tried restoring, but I got an error 1603 this time. Please help! :-/

Great software. Used it on my iPod Touch 2G and worked like a charm. Thx.

I have a related "can it be done" question. The HOME button on one of my older, not-jailbroken iPods (1G) stopped working. This appears to be due to a hardware issue.

My Question: Is it possible to jailbreak this older iPod Touch 1G with QF or other products, considering that its HOME button doesn't work at all? As a result the iPod can't be placed in DFU mode.

I am hoping there will be a way to workadound the issue and place the phone in DFU mode somehow, so it can be jailbroken.

    Please help.

    Thanks,
    Michael

P.S. The reason I want to jailbreak so I can install several utilities available via Cydia which will allow me to use the battery icon as a Home button

Hi, this isn't really about the subject, but i was wondering if you could do the same wonderful job you did on the iTouch 2g on the new iPhone OS 3.
    Thank you very much.

Yo también me estoy haciendo la misma pregunta que Roy, ojalá pueda hacer de nuevo el Jailbreak a mi iPod Touch 2G con el nuevo OS 3.0!!

    Un saludo desde España!! :D

DaSpurTitan: The best point of having a ipod jailfree is to put funcional cracked apps in the ipod, just google it

all of you having problems jailbreaking a 1g ipod touch using quickfreedom stop trying to use it, it only works for the 2g I know because I jailbroke my own ipod 2g using this then tried my roommates 1g and it did not work so I used quickpwn to do his ipod. Just download quickpwn and use that instead it works for 2.2.1 but not the 2g

Hey, I was hoping you could update the software to install 3.0, now that it is out. Perhaps an update would be nice to at least tell us your intentions, if you are going to do that. Otherwise, we can go bug some other people...

Hi im new here but i know a thing or two about mobile hack stuff (i was dealing with SE and Nokia). The thing is.. in QF on Step 2 (Create Custom FW). There is "Allready Jailbroken" and i dont know what it stands for.. is it for those who jailbroke their iPods before? (older FW) or does it mean that My Custom FW will be prejailbroken?

    Thx in advance

Ive gotten everything so far up to where i need to press pre jail break. I think i put my ipod into DFU mode because my itunes needs to restore my ipod but on Quickfreedom it wont reconize my ipod. What should i do?
    Thanks

After i connect the iPod in DFU mode, qf realizes so.
pressing "Start Pre-Jailbreak" seems to work first, but then i get as follows:
[time] Starting Pre Jailbreak. Please wait...
[time] iPod connected in DFU mode, press Start Pre-Jailbreak
[time] If your iPod screen is not white, try unplugging/replugging.
[time] iPod connected in DFU mode, press Start Pre-Jailbreak

now replugging does not do anything, if i cancel pre-jailbreak and start it again, its just the same, nothing else happens, ipod screen does not turn white. If i try to apply the custom firmware in itunes, it gives out an error (presumbly because pre-jailbreak was not successfull and the screen is not white).
As far as i know i did follow the instructions exactly, but i wont get it to work. firmware is 2.2.1 while the ipod itself is a 1g (although that should not be a problem, as other people did get it to work with those), os is xp professional with sp2

Oh, btw the "iPOD connected in DFU mode"-part appears after starting the pre-jailbreak and just seconds before the replugging message.

Hi. I am new to the iTouch. I just bought a 2nd gen, and I want to be able to write software for it. It looks like the easiest way to get started is to install the 'toolchain 2.0' Cydia app and develop right on the device. This seems to only work with 2.2.1--there's not yet an 'easy-to-install toolchain for 3.0.
My question is, am I missing something? Is backing up to 2.2.1 (I'm at 3.0) in order to use the 2.0 toolchain a reasonable thing to do? Maybe I should be in a developers forum...
    Thanks for any thoughts.
