Well I have not updated QuickFreedom in a few months and it does not seem xpwn will be updated. So I will not continue to release a final version. Thank you all for using QuickFreedom and links will remain for both 2.2.1 and the 3.0 BETA. I will be purchasing the new iPod Touch 3.0 this fall and more development and tools may be released later on this fall. The best method of jailbreaking your iPod Touch 2nd Gen is by using redsn0w.

The Beta has been released! Please test it out and comment here or email me at dan@ipod2g.info for imporvments, ideas, bugs, etc. I have not tested iPod 1G, iPhone or iPhone 3G. Make sure you have upgraded to the 3.0 firmware before using QuickFreedom 2.0 Beta. Remember this is a Beta and custom ipsw creation, boot logo changing, etc are not available until a later date. Thank you for using QuickFreedom!

Note: This is just a Beta and full ipsw creation is not yet available, it this Beta does not work, please wait until QuickFreedom is updated with custom firmware creation.

With Quickfreedom 2.0 Beta you can jailbreak your iPod Touch 2G wth 3.0 firmware. Although the ability to add custom logos, create custom firmware is not yet available, Quickfreedom will be updated for the 3.0 firmware using redsn0w. I have also included the option to install Cydia and Icy, since Installer will no longer be supported after July 1st, I will not include it with Quickfreedom. Expect a release shortly :)

Just as a side note, should I update it so it jaibreaks the iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPod 1G as well or make it iPod Touch 2G exclusive?

Beginning 3.0 Process

I'm going to try to upgrade Quickfreedom so it can jailbreak 3.0 firmware on the iPod Touch 2G. The only problem is that redsnow 0.7 seems like the only method to do this at the moment and an xpwn (used for creating custom ipsws) package for 3.0 firmware has not been released yet.

If you are having trouble using QuickFreedom Please find your question below and it may help you.

1) I keep getting an 'Error Creating Firmware' everytime I try making it.

Try running the program as an admin (Right click on QuickFreedom and select Run as Administrator)
Make sure you are logged onto windows as an Administrator
Reinstall QuickFreedom and try the above procedures again

2) I'm getting the blue screen of death and/or my usb ports and drivers are not working properly.

LibUsb must be installed in compatiblity mode for windows xp sp2. If you forgot to do this or it did not work properly. Restart your computer and press F8 during boot and select Safe Mode. Uninstalling LIBUSB or doing a system restore to a time before LibUsb will fix all your driver issues.
LibUsb is known to mess up your drivers so be careful about doing so.

3) Im getting error 6 in iTunes while restoring

Problem is with your boot logo most likely. Make sure you meet all requirments for creating your own custom boot logo found in the help file in QuickFreedom.

4) I can't find the Custom Firmware file on my desktop!!

Did you click Create Firmware in QuickFreedom during Step 2?

5) I downloaded the original 2.2.1 firmware, however it shows a bunch of files.

When you download the Original 2.2.1 firmware do NOT extract it. It should have an extention ending with .ipsw

6) I am unable to enter dfu mode or my computer does not recognize it.

To enter DFU mode, click here for a tutorial.
If you get an USB device not recognized, uninstall LIBUSB and reinstall iTunes (will not delete any music or anything)

7) I'm getting "Error 13" in iTunes

This problem is related to USB. Turn Off your ipod and unplug it. Replug the device and turn it on and place in the correct mode (DFU or Recovery). If this does not work reinstall iTunes/LibUsb

8) I keep getting "Error 1604 or 16xx in iTunes"

First of all this problem can sometimes be fixed if you restore to your original 2.2.1 firmware. If that fails then an entry through iRecovery needs to be changed so Auto-Boot = True. To do this follow this tutorial here.

Well I have been a bit busy this past week, but I'm back to working on it so expect the release tonight!

Update: Having a few problems while doing final tests, looks like its gonna be a few more hours :(

Status: Currently working on Copy Original Firmware to XPwn directory problems.

Update 2: Need to go soon, still need a more stable method of copying the firmware. Be back in a few hours.

Well the creation of the NOR only firmware is having a few problems and the reason for the non-release. It can patch the boot logo, but for some reason the recovery logo is not working right. I have applied the NOR only firmware about 50 times to my ipod already and seem to be having random problems. Update to follow later.

After having some problems with LIBUSB, I have made a new video tutorial for LIBUSB for people still having problems installing LibUsb on Windows Vista 64-Bit. I just tryed this method on my fresh factory settings laptop and it worked flawlessly :)

Okay we still have a few problems, although it seems another percent of people have successfully jailbroken :)

1) LIBUSB not detected as installed. I'll be adding a spot in the advanced settings so you can tell QuickFreedom that you have it installed

2) Slowness/Lagg - This is happening on SLOW computers and the reason behind the "stuck creating/1% errors" I will try to process this in the backround so the program still will respond properly =/ As a temorarty fix, close down ALL running programs in the backround.

3) LIBUSB - May not be installing properly on vista so I'll revert back to the old manual method of installing in compatibility mode

4) If you recieve a patch error please send the log.txt file in Program Files / QuickFreedom directory to dan@ipod2g.info so I can sort this out thanks.

As a side note, after you have successfully jailbroken you may uninstall LIBUSB until you need to jaikbreak again.

Thanks to the huge response to QuickFreedom :)

There are still a few bugs I need to work out, mainly 2 issues:

1) Stuck at 1% - Found problem hopfully fixed in next version :)

2) Patch Error - Some people still receiving this error, not sure why but I'll be looking in an alternate zip method.

For people having trouble downloading, I have added 2 more mirrors on the Download page.

Expect version 1.1.1 sometime later tonight/tomorrow :)

Well it seems the maker of Nitrokey -.- found the exploit that the Dev Team would release in June. Now that puts tethered away. Thank you to everyone who supported QuickTether. I planned on releasing QuickTether 1.1 tonight, however, with this new exploit, tethered is usless now that untethered has been released.

Alright I have decided not to release QuickTether with the Flash Nor method as it need some work. I will update QuickTether to 1.1 with the bug fixes. I am having a few problems with my laptop and ipod however..

Update: Rewriting firmware creation. This will GREATLY improve stability :)

Update 2: Just restored my iPod 100% no problems :) Now some final testing.

Flash NOR

Im currently trying to find a way to Flash NOR. This will allow people already jailbroken to change boot logos or apply RUN Rs patch/boot :)

Update 1: So far I have recieved every possible error, from 6 to 17 to 1611 =/

Update 3: Error 6 may be related to pre-jailbreak process, Ill have to mod it for Flash Nor process.

Update 4: Error restoring 17. This happens when dmg is applyed more then 1 patch.

Update 5: Okay people getting around Error 6 by restoring custom firmware, killing iTunes, the restoring new nor firmware. I am not using this method in QuickTether, too confusing. Like 15 steps... If I can't get NOR to be patched properly without any errors I'll release QuickTether tomorrow

Update 6: iPod won't restore properly, error 17 everytime. =/

Edit: I talked to Chris personally about this, this was being spread by brewster on iptf.

If you have not heard of the jailbreak tool: "redtool" I have just been accused of ripping apart redtool and recompiling it into QuickTether. Here are some facts:

-QuickTether 1.0.0 was released on March 1st, 2009. 2 days later redtool 99.5 was announced to support the RUN RS feature.

-redtool was created in .net and QuickTether was created in VB6, two different lauguages.
-I made my entire program from scratch, this includes every single form, control, and item inside my program was written by me.
-I have never seen the source code of redtool
-I use Redj0nny, a free irecovery port made by Gojonnyboi
-redtool required both versions of firmware, 2.2.1 and 2.1.1, while QuickTether only required 2.2.1
-I have tested with other boot program such as Decovery, irecovery, etc and found Redj0nny the easiest to use

-I would not rip apart programs or reference procedures, context, events, programs, or usage of them inside QuickTether. If I did use elements I would always reference them. You can see on the Main Menu of QuickTether a scrolling list of those who I credited for creating QuickTether. This includes:

Dev and Chronic Teams for their Redsn0w and 0wnboot patches
Gojohnnyboi for his dedicated work on Redj0nny and Custom boot logos as well as the other help he provides
DHowett/Alaric for Decovery and his help :)
iPod Touch Fans Forum, for beta users and everyone who has helped me test QuickTether

As a final note, I am a bit shocked at being accused of stealing or copying aspects from redtool to QuickTether. I have spent several days working on this project as a way of making the iPod Touch 2g jailbreak much easier for those having problems.

I'm going to test the "Flash NOR" method and try and see if I can change my Boot logo without full restore. For people that can't use the RUN RS command but already have jailbroken the FLASH NOR will allow you to install it.
